El Cajon Real Estate

Just east of San Diego lies the stunning city of El Cajon, CA. During the Spanish rule in the late 1700s and early 1800s, land grants were given to the Roman Catholic Church to set up missions throughout the land. Soon, the missionaries came upon El Cajon, which would later serve as a barrier for stray cattle and a place for native Indian converts. Eventually, gold was discovered in the area in 1869, and the town’s manager set up a hotel for people to stay while looking for gold. Now, El Cajon is known for being one of the diverse cities in California, which has allowed for more unity and understanding between neighbors in the community. It’s also home to its own airport. It is bordered by San Diego and La Mesa.

The city is located 17 mi east of Downtown San Diego. The city takes its name from Rancho El Cajón, which was in turn named for the box-like shape of the valley which surrounds the city, which is also the origin of the city’s common nickname of “The Box”.

Residents love El Cajon because it is never too cold, there are plenty of outdoor activities to do, there are amazing public schools for kids to attend nearby, and the culture is friendly. El Cajon offers its people a more suburban feel with many neighborhoods, shops, and stores always close by, so there is no wonder many families are compelled to move here.
